Abstract

The purpose of this experiment was to develop a technique that can be utilized to evaluate the effectiveness of the display component of computer systems in terms of human performance. The task chosen was the search for target characters in a block of pseudo-text. Static and dynamic tests were made using an AMLCD and a CRT with identical physical size and resolution. No statistically significant difference was found in search times between displays for either the static or dynamic case. A very small degradation in search time for the dynamic case of the LCD, as compared to the static case for that display, was noted. No such effect was seen for the CRT display.
