Research
There are a lot of on-going researches in this topic. In [6], overlapping semi-transparent widgets and text are studied. It shows that this approach use the screen space more efficiently. It also makes the layout more compact and elegant. In [5], the authors perform a study into the impact of small display for retrieval tasks. They find that users with small screen are 50% less effective in completing tasks. They also suggest some guidelines and propose direct access methods for small screen. In [2], the authors suggest generating summary views to represent both the link structure and contents of a set of web pages. It is shown that it can help the users navigate the site more efficiently. They extend their work in [3] that they generate page summary, keyword summary and automated view when the users are near the information they want.

A survey of the literature, we suggests that the future research should pay more attention to web page design for small screen. More study into basic understanding of the users behavior and cognitive issues such as [2] are needed. Moreover, developing techniques that are shown to be efficient for small screen browsing such as those proposed in [2, 3, 5, 6] should be encouraged.
