Studies, 1975--.
- Call number: E 169.1 .P898
- Publishes "exceptional works of criticism and
scholarship that elucidate the essential nature of the American character."
The editor's idiosyncracies produce some unevenness in the quality of the
essays published every year. Nevertheless, Prospects has included a
number of landmark articles in the field and is probably second in importance
to American Quarterly as a forum for American Studies scholarship.
Beginning with Vol. 10 (1986), Prospects has issued a second annual
bibliography volume which updates Salzman's American Studies: An Annotated
Bibliography (1986) [E 169.1 .A483] one year at a time, beginning with
1984. Unlike the original bibliography which lists only books, Prospects
lists books and articles by field and subfield. Generous descriptive annotations.
Author/ title index. Note--some libraries catalog as a monograph and some
catalog as a serial.
