Published in London by a women's collective, but international in scope. Contents include articles, book reviews, and a "noticeboard." Articles are well-researched but brief with current bibliographies appended. Emphasis seems to be on theory and politics; a sampling of topics includes childhood sexual abuse, homophobia in black communities, political solidarity among women. Excellent resource for scholars interested in reading European, Asian or African women's opinions of American feminist theory. No serial bibliography.

Founded to "encourage analytic responses to feminist issues and to open new areas of research, criticism, and speculation." Takes an advocacy position: "The feminist movement has demonstrated that the study of women is more than a compensatory project. Instead, feminism has the potential fundamentally to reshape the way we view the world. Scope is broad, encompassing works on pedagogical issues, history, mass communications, and literary criticism. International and cross-cultural in scope. Publishes essays, fiction, poetry, biography and carefully researched scholarly articles, as well as notes, letters, and lists of publications received. An important interdisciplinary journal in scholarly women's studies. Publishes lengthy research articles and book review essays. Usually one issue/year dwells on a special topic, e.g. "Women and the American City." International in scope but primarily Western in focus. Contributions come from fields of history, literature, sociology, psychology, and women's studies. Only one bibliography listed in ten-year span of index. Has "Notes" section that reports on upcoming Congresses and meetings, new research tools, calls for papers, and publications of interest. Very high quality journal dedicated to publishing a variety of voices in accessible articles.
 
 
Tulsa Studies in Women's Literature. May & December.

While this journal may not be the most famous, it is a quality production that has won awards over its 15-year life from the Council of Editors of Learned Journals. There are articles, heavily footnoted, along with reviews of recently published scholarship not confined to American literature but the emphasis is there. There are five pages of "Books Received" listed by title. The spring edition contained an index of all articles written from 1982-1996.

Extremely useful review organ, worth checking frequently. "The WRB is feminist but not restricted to any one conception of feminism; all writing that is neither sexist, racist, homophobic, nor otherwise discriminatory will be welcome. We seek to represent the widest possible range of feminist perspectives both in the books reviewed and in the content of the reviews." Reviews broad spectrum of materials, including pedagogical books, poetry, prose, across a vast and diverse academic as well as public arena. Also publishes list of books received and compiles the list annually each summer. Also lists job postings.

Published by Pergamon Press in England and the U.S. States its purpose as "to aid the distribution and exchange of feminist research in multidisciplinary, international areas of women's studies and in feminist research in other disciplines." Publishes articles from those both inside and outside academia, and "action-oriented research as well as theoretical, methodological issues, and historical reassessment of the lives and works of women." Favors works of radical feminism. Publishes book reviews and the "Feminist Forum" which abstracts books under diverse headings, e.g. aging, art, coalitions, feminist research, feminist theory, lesbians, native Americans, rape/violence, religion/spirituality, etc. No serial but occasional (rare) theme bibliographies.
