Welcome to my wired bibliography. The following are useful sites
for the study of humor and in researching various topics
relating to New York City. As of yet, I do not
have a meta-site that specifically addresses my area of
focus: New York City humor.
I have included brief commentary and evaluations on each
site.
This is an extensive meta-site with links to a wide range of
topics. Excellent resouce tool. Topics range from academic
subjects to humorous cards and greetings. Click onto
"Academic" to find subjects as diverse as "Philosphy of
Humor" to "Therapeutic Humor." This site also includes a number
of additional bibliographies.
This site is maintained by humor scholar Willibald Ruch from
the Univesity of Duesseldorf. It can
also be accessed by links already included in my web page: The
Gliner Center and The International Society for Humor Studies. I
include it on its own as it provides direct links to humor
journals and discussion lists. This site is primarily
academic.
Good site for online data base of humor resources. It is part of
the Center for Research on Innovation and Competition. One does
have to spend a few minutes finding the link to
humor. Although once there, the site proves both useful and
informative. As sociologist Jason Rutter states "my current
research and publication interests at
CRIC centre around social aspects of the use of Information and
Communication Technologies especially issues of consumption,
trust, and interaction within domestic spaces." Within that,
Rutter
has included the study of humor.
Columbia University Bibliographies
Columbia University's bibliographical resource for
all aspects of New York City, from government services to
historical documents to current guides and information. This
site does not provide additional links but the numerous
bibliographies are extensive.
This site is best described in the organization's own words: "City Lore was founded in 1986 to produce programs and publications that convey the richness of New York City's cultural heritage. Increasingly our many efforts embrace national audiences as well. City Lore is a non-profit membership organization." Its staff includes folklorists, historians, anthropologists, and ethnomusicologists. The site provides a listing of the organization's programs and events as well as relevant bibliographies pertaining to the cultural heritage of New York City.
