Media and Popular Culture

My area of study is popular culture and media studies.  I am interested in the identity and image construction.  In particular, I am interested in the use of the image of Malcolm X by the media to represent a nationalist black figure.  I am also interested in the manipulation of the fact of media negativity surrounding his image by Malcolm X. The agency he displays in his construction demonstrates that even in the face of limited resources, everyone can still control his or her destiny.
