Wimba Podcaster is a tool available within ELMS course spaces. It is one tool within the Wimba Voice Tools suite. Instructors can use it to create short audio podcasts or import audio files and make them available to students within the ELMS course space. Instructors can also choose to make course audio content publicly available to their students via an RSS feed to iTunes or some other podcatcher application.
To use Wimba Podcaster in your ELMS course space, you will need first to create a Wimba podcast repository, then you can create a podcast and make it accessible to students. In addition to the documentation provided below, this tool and best practices for its use are discussed in the Wimba Voice Tools workshop offered through the Learning Technologies Institute (LTI) workshop series.
Getting Started with Wimba Podcaster
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS: The only technical requirements for instructors and students are internet access, the availability of a current version of Java in the Web browser, a microphone, and speakers for play back. Wimba Podcaster is not fully supported in Firefox 3.0 or Internet Explorer 8.x. Wimba Voicetool applications such as Wimba Podcaster should be accessed using the Firefox 2.x, Safari or Internet Explorer 7.x versions of browsers.
