How Do I Create a Wimba Podcast Repository?

Print-friendlyPrint-friendly

Wimba Podcaster enables you to create several Wimba podcast repositories in which you can house numerous audio podcasts. (The Wimba repository is akin to an "album" in iTunesU Academic.)

  1. Click on the Communications link from the Tools panel below your course menu and click on the Wimba Podcaster link in the list of Communication tools. Or, access a content area from the Control Panel, choose Wimba Podcaster from the Select: menu and click on the Go button.

You may be prompted to accept or trust a security warning; this warning is given because the tool requires the use of a java applet.

  2. Click on the Add button.

  3. Provide a title for the podcast repository in the Title: field. This is not the name of an individual podcast file, but, rather, the title of the environment that will house a list of podcast files.

  4. Set the default conditions for each podcast you will create in this repository, including
    • select an audio quality for the podcasts. Note that standard quality is usually more than adequate; increasing the quality requires that students have a broadband connection (e.g., Cable/DSL) to ELMS.
    • allow for a text label.
    • set a time limit for the podcast you will produce (a maximum of 5 minutes is suggested, although up to 60 minutes is possible).
    • decide if you want students to be able to post podcasts to the Podcaster list, as well.
  5. Click the Submit button.

Once you have created the Podcaster repository, you will create or import podcasts in it.
