How Do I Create and Use a Drop Box for Student Submissions

A Drop Box enables students to upload media files to an iTunesU academic site course space that only the instructor can see.

Setting up a Drop Box

After your request for an iTunesU course space has been approved, you will have the option of setting up a "Drop Box" from the Manage Space tool set at Maryland on iTunesU (learningonline.umd.edu/itunesu/manageITunesSpace.jsf).

Access your course space in iTunesU (https://learningonline.umd.edu/media/itunesu). Note that a Drop Box tab has been added to the default "Group One" and "Group Two" tabs. dropbox tab

How Students Upload Content to the Drop Box

The Drop Box provides a place to which students can upload files that only their instructor can access.

  1. Students will use the link to your iTunesU course space to access the course.
  2. Select the Drop Box tab.
  3. Click on the "Upload Files" option in the upper-right corner of the screen. This reveals an "upload form" in the browser window.
  4. Click on the Add New File link.
  5. Browse for the file locally.
  6. Wait for a message confirming that the file transfer is complete.
  7. Click on the Return to iTunes link to see the uploaded file.

Viewing Student Content in the Drop Box

  1. Select the Drop Box tab in your iTunesU course space.
  2. Select View-->View Options from the iTunes menu at the top of the page.
  3. Check the "Comments" box under the "Show Columns" option.
  4. This reveals the comments field in the tracks listed under the Drop Box tab. It will contain the name of whoever uploads a file.
