Print-friendlyPrint-friendly

The new MP4 functionality of Wimba Classroom 6.0
gives instructors the power to distribute MP4 and MP3 files, featuring digital audio and video streams of lectures and discussion , to ELMS course spaces, YouTube, or iTunesU. Students gain tremendous flexibility in accessing content online or offline, from not only their computer but from their iPod, iPhone, or other MP4 players.

1. The new MP4 functionality

You are able to set up the MP4 or MP3 download option of a Wimba session archive for your students when you first set up a Wimba room in ELMS. To access the MP4/MP3 settings:

  • In your ELMS course space, click the room title to access the room set up page.
  • Click "Room Settings", and then go to option 6 "Portable Media Settings"to set up the MP3/MP4 settings

2. Reset Content Frame

  • The Reset Content Frame option, located directly above the slide list in a Wimba Classroom, allows presenters to reset the content frame to the default slide that appears when you first enter a room. This feature can be useful anytime a presenter wants to quickly clear the content frame. Resetting the content frame also affects archived content that is made available for MP4 download by de-prioritizing video content.

3. Automatically Open New Archives

  • New archives are disabled by default. Instructors will have to “Open” an archive for participants to view. “Automatically Open New Archives“option will open all newly created archives automatically and available to students.
  • To access this option, you need to go to "Room Settings" in your ELMS course space

4. More Browsers Support

  • Support for Internet Explorer 8/Firefox 3.0 and 3.5
  • Support for Firefox on Mac OS X
