I don't know... this project smells a little like a costly boondoggle. "Lost in La Mancha" or "The Key to All Mythologies." It will never be done, even by a company that is otherwise known for its ability to do what seems impossible.

In my view, the libraries should start doing this themselves, and selling access. That would be a much smarter model than simply trying to put it all online.

That this day will likely not resonate loudly brings my attention to the last time I heard this comment, when Amazon started doing the same sort of thing with its searchable text. I assume the technology is similar, but the business model is different.

I wonder how that Amazon feature is being used . . .
