I think people are, but not necessarily from our side of the fence. I see stuff on this - or at least on social networks like Friendster and so on - that pop up on AoIR. I suspect that social science folks tend to jump on these items a touch quicker, maybe because the social effects are easier to see (or study?) than the "humanities effect," which leans towards longevity.

But you're right - plugins are where it's at. You have them for everything: google maps, flickr ... games like Asheron's Call. Wait. Someone I know wrote on that...
