9:00- 9:15 Introduction and Icebreaker
9:15-10:00 Introduction of the course
Learners receive student folder of information and training
materials. Overview of the day's agenda, assignments, grading,
netiquette, library access, and student manual.
10:00-10:15 Introduction of creating syllabus activity.
10:15-10:45 Students are formed into groups of 4 or
5 and asked to develop
a list of topics they feel would be important to cover in the
course. Groups are asked to include reasons why the topics
are important.
10:45-11:00 Students and instructor negotiate the
topics to be included in
the course syllabus.
11:00-12:00 Overview of WebCT and how to use it.
Step-by step exercises will be in the Student Manual.
12:00- 1:00 Lunch (Pizza and soft drinks).
1:00- 3:45 Basic Web page Training
(Handouts and Exercises in each Learner's Packet)
1) Basic HTML
2) Using Page Composer in Netscape Communicator
3) Design and Copyright Issues
4) Additional HTML Training Resources (printed and on the Web)
3:45- 4:00 Wrap-up and reminder of the
second week's assignments.
