Popular Comic Books of The Golden Age

Throughout the Golden Age of comic history, many comic books were published. Some comic books failed, but others became big sellers and were published for years. Many comic books became popular because of the comics that they included, like Superman, Batman, and The Flash. Another comic book character, Popeye was also popular at the time. Popeye is more fully researched by Rachel Kopp on her webpage.

One of the longest comic books running is DC Comics. DC Comics was created when the producer of New Fun Comics, Major Malcolm Wheeler, coordinated his efforts his printer/distributor Harry Donenfeld (21). DC Comics #27 took America by storm with the appearance of Batman in 1939. Its popularity has lasted through the years, and today DC Comics has expanded and is owned by Warner Brothers.

Another popular comic book of the time was All Star Comics. All Star Comics was different in that it was the first comic book that featured a team of superheros (22). The team included The Flash, The Green Lantern, The Spectre, The Hawkman, Dr. Fate, The Hour-man, The Sandman, Captain Atom, and Johnny Thunder (23). Readers responded well to this new idea, and All Star Comics became a leading comic book in history.

In the eighth issue of All Star Comics, a very new kind of comic hero, or should I say heroine, was introduced. Wonder Woman set a very big impression in the comic book world. Wonder Woman could fight with the best of them, Superman and Batman included (24). Wonder Woman became a leading figure in the comic world, and would remain there for a very long time.
