Hello
and
to Cherise's Homepage!!
Hey, Cherise here, and you have entered the
BIGGEST
school project in history.:) Before I explain further, let me tell you a
little bit about
myself.
In case you haven't figured it out yet, my name is
Cherise(although I'm sometimes referred to as Reese).
I'm a 19 year old
Sophomore at the University of Maryland,
College Park(Go Terps)!!
I'm majoring in Psychology(at the moment) and plan to attend Medical
School
when I graduate from here. I'm into a whole lot of interesting stuff that
I'll go into later:), but right now let me tell you a little bit about
this homepage.
This homepage is actually not of my free will.:) It's
part of a
MASSIVE project I have to do for my American Studies class.
"Material
Aspects of American Life," examines material culture in the
United States.
We explore how to read material objects as sources of insight about
American culture. Here's a quote that explains it a little more:
"We are surrounded by things, and we are surrounded by history.
But too seldom do we use the artifacts that make up our enviroment to
understand the past. Too seldom do we try to read objects as we
read books- to understand the people and times that created them,
used them, and discarded them." - History of Things edited
by Stevan Lubar and W. David Kingery
Anyways, I hope by now you have a general overview of what the course is
about. For the rest of the semester, we will be doing several homework
assingments and projects that will be put on our web pages. So you have
to keep
checking back in here to see what I've been up to. And if everything goes
according to plan, I'll even post my grades for each of the Homework
Assignments. That is of course if I get an "A" or "B".:) Anyways, have
fun on your journey through American Studies. Check out some other stuff
to.
