Women's Hairpieces
Pieces

In the late 1930's when it was the style
to not wear a hat, hairpieces were very in style. Women wore
bows in their hair. They wore combs or barettes with jewels or ribbons on
them. They
wore snoods as well.1

A snood, seen above is a fancier version of a
hair
net.
It holds the hair away from the face, but looks nicer than a pony tail.
There were snoods made attached to hats. If you would like to see an
example of one like that, go to my page on hats.
Women wore ribbons in their hair to dress up
their styles. Many times nighttime styles included many curls and
ribbons. To see an example of a style like this, see my page on hairstyles. It is one of the center styles on the
page.
Extensions
As women desired longer hair, but it was not
practical, they used fake extension pieces to give the appearance of
longer hair. See below for a few examples.
The one on the right is
padding wrapped with hair to give the appearance of lots of hair tucked up
into that style. The left one is an attachment held there by the black
barette that you see. It is a chignon of fake hair. 2
