An Analyis of a Baseball Glove
Baseball is perhaps the most American of sports. In baseball, there are
no boundaries. It is a battle between individuals - the batter and the
pitcher. But it requires teamwork to succeed. Greenbelt is filled with
spaces suitable for baseball, and playing the sport was no doubt common.
This glove is leather, and would have been used by boys - and sometimes
men - for sport. It is doubtful that girls would have been welcome to
play baseball. More likely, they would have played softball - if
anything. As far as the Depression goes, it probable that this glove was
relatively inexpensive. It ties into Greenbelt in that it was part of the
importance of outdoor recreation and sports within the community.
