An Analysis of a Toy Soldier
Toy soldiers are another mainstay of toys throughout the ages. Boys seem
to have always liked to play war and games of its sort - a type of
preperation perhaps for the possible role of soldier. This soldier is
painted metal. It looks to be a sailor of some sort, and is carrying a
flag in a marching position. In and of itself. thhe artifact probably
would have been useless. More likely it would have been used with a large
number of other toy soldiers. When one looks at this artifact insofar as
it ties into the Depression, it is clearly an example of an inexpensive
and durable toy. As far as Greenbelt goes, it ties into the gender
specific toys that are common in the community in which later roles are
unculcated through doys. Girls played with dolls and toy furniture - boys
played with soldiers.
