from http://maps.yahoo.comGreenbelt is located at north of Washington, D.C., in Prince Georges County of Maryland. There are two major highways in both northeast and west of Greenbelt. These are Baltimore-Washington Parkway and Interstate 495, which is also known as the Beltway. There is also a Metro Station on the Green Line of the Metro Rail System, which is named after the town itself. When Greenbelt was founded in 1930s, there were also two major highways. And they were the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and U.S. Route 1. As the time passes, U.S. Route 1 was replaced by the I-495, which is a part of the Interstate Highway System. For decades, these geographical advantages of have made Greenbelt, a place to live for people who work in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, MD.
My apartment is in North Bethesda, in the City of Rockville. The City of Rockville, Maryland is located in the northwest of Washington, D.C. It begins at the connection of Route 355, the Rockville Pike, and I-495. It continues to the west along the Route 355 until the connection of the Sam Eig Highway, which represents its border to the City of Gaithersburg, MD. The Interstate 270 is located at the south of Rockville. It plays a major role in the commute of thousands of people daily from neighboring cities Gaithersburg and Frederick into Washington, D.C. and Virginia, in connection to the I-495. Rockville has six Metro stations: Medical Center, Grosvenor, White Flint, Twinbrook, Rockville, Shady Grove. All of these are on the Red Line of the Metro Rail System Of Washington, D.C. When Rockville was founded, Route 355:Old Frederick Road was the only major road. As the years passed, the geographical importance of Rockville, as same as in the case of Greenbelt, became more obvious to the local government. This fact has helped Rockville to grow into major residential and commercial area with the largest web of transportation network in Montgomery County.
These facts show why both Rockville of today and Greenbelt of both today and past have been most popular places for middle class to live. Easy access to major transportation mediums, affordable housing, and the security of surrounding area makes them both hot places to live.
