What is important in your kitchen?

Some may say appearance is important. Others might say convenience is important. No matter what is most important to you, one thing is for sure: your kitchen must measure up to your needs.
The days when a kitchen was just a room for cooking and eating are long gone. For many families, the kitchen represents much more than a place to cook meals as it function in 1930s. It is a gathering place for family events. It is an informal setting for welcoming friends. Whether it's child studying at the counter, a project to be finished, or a party going on, everything seems to happen in the kitchen.
Recently, I had the opportunity to look at a Greenbelt home of the 1930s. I was able to notice the difference in present day kitchen and the Greenbelt kitchen. From comparing both of these kitchens, one can see the how the functions have changed and why. I will compare the Greenbelt kitchen to my aunt's modern kitchen.
