Interpretation
3. Few authors provided a thorough cultural analysis for
Project 1. Look at the cultural analysis for project 3 again.
What aspects of the cultural analysis of this artifact has he
or she overlooked? Do you understand how the artifact
reflects and shapes its producers, users, and the culture in
which they live? What could the author do to provide a more
extensive or a better cultural analysis?
4. How well does the author incorporate some of Celia Lury's
ideas about consumer culture into his or her project? Refer
to #2 on the assignment sheet to complete this section of your
evaluation. For example, does the author discuss the ways in
which his or her findings support or contradict the argument
that consumer culture is becoming increasingly stylized and
pervasive in the late 20th century?
5. How perceptive is the author's project in analyzing an
aspect of American lifestyle and consumer culture? How would
you rate it for its portrayal of a part of the history of our
times? How could the author develop a more substantive
analysis? Please try to make specific suggestions for
improvement and remember to point out the project's strengths
in assessing consumer practices in American society.
6. Please take a moment to assess the author's argumentation
technique. In every good argument, the author should make a
clear statement of position, explain his/her reasoning
(how/why he arrived at that position), and show evidence to
support his/her position. Does the author cover all three
parts of good argumentation?
What is the most strongly-argued section of this project and
why?
What is the most weakly-argued section of this project?
Explain what needs to be done to improve it.
7. Please assess the look and layout of the page(s) and
suggest any changes you think are necessary.
