Greenbelt's Housewives' Club no longer exists, but it was an essential organization of its time. It was most active during World War Two, when it threw itself into aiding the war effort. The purpose of the club was for solving local social problems and to aid new mothers who were unable to obtain adequate care for their home and child. The club helped out working mothers as well. The Housewives' Club used its resources of accomplished women to sew and pack kits for servicemen. The club also took time to study and try to solve Greenbelt's consumer and educational problems (The Washington Post, 6 Oct. 1944).
