AMST 205
Material Aspects of American Life
Project Two
BEDROOM DESCRIPTION AND ANALYSIS
For this project you are asked to analyze your own bedroom or sleeping
arrangements in detail - what it contains and how it is decorated. This
can be your bedroom at home, your dorm room, your apartment, or whatever
sleeping space you occupy.
1) Discuss the history of the space and contents, materials they are made
from, construction, design, and function. How does it compare to other
bedrooms? What are it's aesthetic qualities?
2) What sort of activities occur in this space? Relate the objects to who
made, sold, bought, and uses them. What human behavior is associated with
it?
3) What personal, economic, social, political, religious, or cultural
assumptions motivate the way you use the space and the objects within it?
What meaning or significance does it have for you?
4) How do you feel about this space or room? How does your bedroom
function as a vehicle of delight, and communication?
Mount this project
on your project2.html web page.
Be sure to include
a local link to your home page.
Include at least
two specific references to the reading with page numbers. (Calvert,
Carson, Cromley).
Pay careful
attention to grammar and spelling. If there are more than
five errors, you will lose points.
Also consider the
design of the page, including graphics and background.
It does not have to be fancy, but take advantage of some of the
possibilities of html. Don't just use it as a word processor.
This project is
due Tuesday, September 30. Hand in a paper copy.
