From Peter Pape, June, 2003:

My father was born in Ujpest, Hungary, May 18, 1900, the son of Nickolas and Julianna (Linderer) Pape. My mother, Sarah Pape, was born in Porcsalma, Hungary, January 25, 1903, the daughter of Nickolas and Anna (Kadar) Czibere. They emigrated to the United States appoximately in 1909 arriving at Ellis Island via boat and came to Michigan to establish their lives in the New World. My father settled around Deckerville, Michigan, where he and his family, one sister, Marie, and one brother, Peter, worked as farm laborers until earning enough money to buy a farm. My mother and her family (my mother was an only child, another sibling died at birth) lived in Detroit where the family bought and operated a rooming house at first, worked one summer in Ohio as farm laborers, my mother (as a teen ager) worked at the Mazda lamp factory in Detroit, went to Newton, Iowa, to work at the Maytag factory, and eventually married Frank Dumity in Detroit. Frank and Sarah had 3 children, Frank, Ann and Steve, and eventually bought a farm in Deckerville, Michigan during the depression. Frank Dumity died in 1935 and my mother at the age of 33 married my father, Joseph, who was 36 at the time and had never married. Joseph and Sarah then had 4 children, June, Joseph, Peter (me) and John.
I married Kay Marie Judson on September 9, 1961. Kay lived in Lansing, Michigan, and I, in Deckerville, but we met at Alma College, Alma, Michigan, where Kay was a freshman in 1959–60 and I was a graduating senior.
