30A.  Jeremiah VanRansselear Ten Broeck was born in Columbia County, New York, U.S.A., on Friday, December 23, 1842, and died in Michigan, U.S.A., on November 10, 1899. He was called Ranse or V.R. Nettie A. Weed died in Michigan on January 9, 1897. They were married in Michigan on Thursday, April 18, 1867. She took the name Nettie A. Ten Broeck. He is the son of Peter Van Rensselear and Mary Jenette (Bortle) Ten Broeck. They had three children:

i. Lotte J. (Viola?) Tenbroeck
ii. Iva Tenbroeck [#30AB]: She was born in _____ _____, and died in Berrien County, Michigan, on March 10, 1916.
iii. Montie Tenbroeck

His second marriage was to Mary Morris. They had no children.

Jeremiah enlisted in the Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry in 1861. His petition for resignation, which was accepted and signed by General George B. Meade, was in the possession of Emma (Youngblood) Duffy in 1980, and reads as follows. (The document was in poor condition. Text inferred from unclear portions are given in italics.)

The following is part of the death notice for V.R. TenBroeck; the beginning appears to be missing. Also, it is not known what newspaper it appeared in.

Mrs. V.R. TenBroeck will move to Berrien Springs where her father resides.... [ellipsis in original document] Van Renssalear TenBroeck was born in Columbia Co., N.Y., Dec. 23, 1842, and went with his parents to Pennsylvania when 10 years of age. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the 145th Pa. vol. Inft. In 1886 he came to Berrien township, Mich. He was married to Miss Nettie A. Weed, who died Jan. 9th, 1897. He was subsequently married to Miss Mary Morris, who now mourns his departure. One son and two daughters, viz: Master Montie, Miss Iva, and Mrs. A. K. Monroe also mourn the death of their father. Mr. TenBroeck died of spinal meningitis Nov. 10th, 1899, aged 56 years 10 months and 17 days. The funeral took place Sunday, Nov. 12, under the auspices of George G. Meade Post, No. 36, of which he was an honored official member in good standing. Rev. A. J. Davis preached from Rev. 21:4: "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes."
