42–43.  Joseph Harmon was born in—say—1785, and died in Ohio in 1821. His wife was _____ _____ An unknown number of children were born, but included:

i. Margaret/Nancy Harmon [#21]: She was born in Ohio in 1808-1809, and died in Byron Township, Kent County, Michigan, on May 25, 1856.
ii. Margaret Harmon: She is probably the same person as Nancy Harmon, above.
iii. John Harmon
iv. Sarah Harmon was born in Ohio on April 24, 1813, and died in Georgetown Township, Ottawa County, Michigan, on September 11, 1879. Per Mary Gillmore, she married Nathan Boynton on December 21, 1831, in Portage County, Ohio, and moved to Michigan in 1837. He was born May 9, 1809, in St. Lawrence or Otsego County, New York; he died February 11, 1847, in Jenison, Georgetown Township, Ottawa County, Michigan, and is buried in Boynton Cemetery, Byron Center. She died on the Boynton homestead of "paralysis". He spelled his name Nathan Boyington on their marriage license. Their children were
  1. Jeremiah Harmon Boynton; b. Orange Twp Cuyahoga Co., Ohio on June 10, d July 6,1896 in Georgetown Twp Ottawa Co. Mi (Jenison) buried in Georgetown Cemetery; m Nov 27, 1861 Mercy M. Smith
  2. Mary Ann Boynton; b. Feb 26, 1838, Georgetown Twp.; d. July 1, 1856
  3. Calista Boynton; b. Apr 25, 1841, Georgetown Twp.; d August 5, 1855
  4. Nathan Wallace Boynton; b. March 2, 1844; m. Esther Davis
v. William Harmon: That William is the son of Joseph is speculative. He married Lavinia Cheyene in Michigan. (Per Mary Gillmore.)

Walter Joshua Gilbert [#4] drew a diagram that shows that the father of Nancy Harmon was John Harmon. However, a letter from Mary Harmon Gillmore, g'g'g'granddaughter of Joseph Harmon, includes:

According to a letter I found in Boynton papers from the Boynton homestead in Jenison Mi, dated 1903, Sarah's father was Joseph, and killed in a log house raising in Ohio when she was 8 years old, that would have been in 1821. The letter also says he was an Englishman and a weaver.
Mary Gillmore also states: "I've read stories about the Harmons coming to Ohio by water from New York and losing every thing during a storm on the lake [Erie], but haven't located a copy it it so far."

On November 2, 1837, John Harmon along with Margaret Harmon, Ella Judson, William Boynton and Jeremiah Boynton, bought land in sections 8 and 9 of Byron Township, Kent County, Michigan. (See diagram in the entry for Ella Judson.) It is presumed that the John who bought land was the brother of Margaret Harmon; however, he could be her father.

Records for the War of 1812 (found in Salt Lake City) give:
