4AC.  Walter Perrine Gilbert was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on Friday, October 2, 1936, and died in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, on July 30, 1995. He was called Buster by his family and Gil by his friends. Edna Rayee Marion was born in Courtland, Alabama, on Wednesday, April 22, 1936. She was called Tinsey. They were married in Kalamazoo on Tuesday, April 10, 1956. She took the name Edna Rayee Gilbert. They were divorced. He is the son of Raymond Cecil Gilbert and Thelma Perrine Gilbert. She is the daughter of George Elmer and Augie (Mitchell) Marion. George was a cousin of Frances Marion, "The Swamp Fox". They had three children:

i. Susan Elizabeth Gilbert [#4ACA]: She was born in Kalamazoo on January 19, 1959.
ii. Perrine Gilbert was born in Kalamazoo on February 14, 1967, and died in Kalamazoo about May of 1967.
iii. Wayne Perrine Gilbert [#4ACC]: He was born in Kalamazoo on April 30, 1968.

Died Sunday afternoon, July 30, 1995. Mr. Gilbert was born October 2, 1936, in Birmingham AL, the son of Raymond C. and Thelma L. (Perrine) Gilbert, and had been a resident of this area for the past 10 years. He had served with the US Army in the 11th Airborne Division. He had been a teacher in the Marcellus school system and had served as a counselor in alcohol and substance abuse in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. He had worked on the Alaskan pipeline and as a substitute teacher in Anchorage, Alaska. He also served as a teacher for the Dept. of Interior Federal Job Corps in Puxico, Missouri. He was a member of the IRA and the BMW Motorcycle Association. Surviving are his wife, Edna Rayee Gilbert; a daughter, Susan Gilbert of Oregon; a son, Wayne P. Gilbert of Kalamazoo; his mother, Thelma L. Gilbert of Kalamazoo; one sister and one brother, Jacqueline Downer of Kalamazoo and Raymond Gilbert of Wichia, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. At his request Mr. Gilbert was cremated. A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at Mt. EverRest Cemetery, Rev. Mr. Clair Hochstetler, of the Skyridge Church of the Brethren, officiating. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Greater Kalamazoo. Arrangements by the
