Died Sunday afternoon, July 30, 1995.
Mr. Gilbert was born October 2, 1936, in Birmingham AL, the son of
Raymond C. and Thelma L. (Perrine) Gilbert, and had been a resident of
this area for the past 10 years. He had served with the US Army in
the 11th Airborne Division. He had been a teacher in the Marcellus
school system and had served as a counselor in alcohol and substance
abuse in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. He had worked on the
Alaskan pipeline and as a substitute teacher in Anchorage, Alaska.
He also served as a teacher for the Dept. of Interior Federal Job
Corps in Puxico, Missouri. He was a member of the IRA and the BMW
Motorcycle Association. Surviving are his wife, Edna Rayee Gilbert;
a daughter, Susan Gilbert of Oregon; a son, Wayne P. Gilbert of
Kalamazoo; his mother, Thelma L. Gilbert of Kalamazoo; one sister and
one brother, Jacqueline Downer of Kalamazoo and Raymond Gilbert of
Wichia, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. At his request Mr.
Gilbert was cremated. A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday morning
at 10 o'clock at Mt. EverRest Cemetery, Rev. Mr. Clair Hochstetler,
of the Skyridge Church of the Brethren, officiating. Memorials may be
made to Hospice of Greater Kalamazoo. Arrangements by the
