The Will of Jonathan Gilbert, son of Thomas
Cornet Gilbert's will was dated Sept. 10, 1674, and reads as follows:
In the name of god Amen
I Jonath Gilbertt In the County of Hartford & Colony of Coniticott being in
Parfict health & good memory att this time & not knowing the Time of my
desolution & sensable of mortality & very desierous to leave a settled peace
In my famaly In respect of thes trancsitory things I doe Constitute this my
last will &
Testament.
Imprs: I give & bequeave my Immortall Sole Into the everlasting armes of my
blesed lord & Saviour Jesus Christ who hath redeemed mee with his pretious
blood &ct: also I bequeave my body to the earth by Comly biriall &:
allsoe my will is that all my lawful] debts shall be paid & discharged out
of my mouable estate which being I doe dispose of that Littel Estate which
god out of bounty hath betrusted mee with: as followeth....
  Itim. I doe bequeave & give to my deere & louing wif mary Gilbertt:
as followeth: the use of my now dwelling hous homlot orchards gardines barne
barne yeards out houses: warhous that [...] I of my Island [...] nam of the
duch Island att northward as also that little [...] I bought of Wiliam
Kelsay: as also that land I d[...] with Mr James Richards: as alsoe that
paster I bought of Andrew Warner allso my wood lot on the west sid of rocke
hill all & every partt of the aforesaid mentioned particulars: duering the
tim of her widowhood & tel my son smaull shall ataine to the age of twenty &
on yeares: & then my will is that shee shall peceably surrender Into Samll
his quiet possession all the aforesaid hous & land save only what is heere
excepted: viz: the seller greate kitchen & all the Chambers ouer it &
garritt ouer the said kitchen: & half my warhous that is to say the south
end seller & rom ouer the said seller: & half my hom Lot the est end of it:
& half my barne & half my barne yards for her use with allsoe full use of
watter both In the well & pond In back without any interrogation during her
natural life then emediatly after her decease &c all the foresaid I give
to my son Samuell Gilbertt & his haires forever hee paying to his brother
Ebenezer Gilbertt thirty pounds in Country pay: Itim. I giv to my son
jonath Gilbertt on half of that land In the bounds of Hadam that I bought of
Mr James Bates: & ths Shailler; &c: or twenty pounds In other estate which
hee the said jonath shall choose which is the Compleating of his portion to
what I have don for him already: Itam: I give to my son thomas Gilbertt my
house & hom lot on the south sid of the riuerrit In Hartford my meadow Land
that I did exchang & had of Mr James Richards to posses emediatly after his
mothers decease but the hous & loot to posses that at the age of twentie &
on yeares allso I give to my son thomas that ten acres of land I bought of
left Rohr Webster Allso I give to my son ths; the lower end of my Island
that is to say from the uper end of that which is Caled by the nam of the
dutch Island which I bought of Capt. Richard lord with a strait line to the
greate riuer west bounded east on the meadow lots: I say all my Land
downward: to him & his haires forever: hee paying to his mother twentie
shilings pr yeare & twenty pounds of good hops pr yeare during her natiriall
lif: Itim: I Give to my son Nathaniel Gilbertt my farm art Aleridin with all
the houses & lands ther unto belonging & all privilidges therunto: to him &
his haires forever and allsoe I give to him thirty pounds mor out of my
Estat or In cartel to stock the said farm. Itim: I give to my daughter
Lidiah Richeson Twenty shillings: Itim: I give to my daughter Sarah Belcher
twenty shillings: Itim: I give to my daughter Mary Holton twenty shillings:
I give to my daughter Ester Gilbertt one hundred pounds to be paid her with
In six moneth after the day of maridg or eighteen yeares of age which shall
first hapen In currant Country pay or part in houshold goods to be prized by
Indiferant men: &c: Itim: I give to my daughter Rachill Gilbertt on
hundred pounds to be paid her within six moneths after the day of Her maridg
or art the age of eighteen which shall first hapen In currant Contry pay or
part In houshold goods apprized by Indiferant men: Itim: I give to my son
Ebenezer Gilbertt and his haires forever all that three hundred akers of
land I bought of Capt. Daniell Clark Ling In farmington bounds: with all
privilidges thereunto belonging & allso the purchase of land I bought of
Massecup: commonly caled & known by the name of Pagon Chaumischage allso I
give to Ebenezer Gilbertt thirty pounds: to be paid him by his brother
Samull Gilbertt & twenty Ponds more to be paid him out of my estate to stock
his farm with which fifty pounds shall be paid him at the age of twenty one
yeares &c: my desier is thatt my wife do remember Hannah Kelsy & give
her twenty shillings & more att her descrishon stall gid her if she prove
obediant: &c:
  Itam: I give to my granchild John Rosseter ten ponds to be paid
him art the age of twenty four yeares In country pay. Allso my will is that
if any of my children prove disobediant & legally convicted soe to bee: then
my wife hath my poer to tak from such child forty pound of his or her
Respectiv portions and distrebut it amongst the other that are obediantt:
allsoe my will is that if any of my children are taken away by death before
thiy Com to Receive thr respective portions then that childs portion to be
devided equally amongst the surviving: allsoc I giv to my grandchild Andrew
Belcher five ponds: in contry pay: allsoe I give to my granchild Jonatha
Richeson five ponds: in contry pay: I allsoe mak & constitutt Capt. John
Allin: my brother John Gilbertt Sargt; Caleb Standly to be helpfull to my
deer and louing wif whom I mak constitut & apint Sole excekcutrix: &
administratrix to this my last will & Testiment & desier that she satisfie
them for thir pains whom I [...] to see this my last will atended & parform
