The Scene: A residential street in the District, or Arlington, or Silver Spring, or...
The Players: Three pairs of youngish-adult friends: Two women; two men; one of each.

(Verse)
Woman 1:  We're friends,
Woman 2:  Good friends,
Or anyway we used to be.

Woman 1:  She's fine,
Woman 2:  She's great,
But it's not like it used to be.

Both:  Something came between us,
 And now our friendship
Doesn't make the slightest bit of sense, Hence:
Woman 1:  We live,
Woman 2:  We live
Both:  on different planets now:
Woman 1:  She owns.
Woman 2:   She rents.

Man 1:  He's cool,
Man 2:  He's cool,
Man 1:  He's everything a bud should be.

Man 2:  No gripes,
Man 1:  No fights,
 We hung out -- y'know -- constantly.

Man 2:  'Til he went and did it,
 Just pulled a fast one
That made me want to kill him -- no offense!
Man 1:  [Spoken] No problem...
Man 2:   He bought a little place before I did!
 He owns.
Man 1:  He rents.

(Bridge)
Woman 2 & Man 1:   We caught the wave, we're riding high,
 We're set,
Woman 1 & Man 2:  We missed the boat, we're loaded --
 With regret.

(Verse)
Man 3:  She's hot,
Woman 3:  He's strong,
Both: At least that's how it seemed to me.

Man 3:  We got
 Along
Woman 3:  And things were going perfectly!

Man 3:  She was soft and cuddly,
Until I brought her over --
Suddenly she's cold and hard and tense.
Woman 3:  [Spoken, disdainful] Oh, please...

Both:  Our dreams just vanished right before our eyes!
Man 3:  She owns,
Woman 3:  He rents!

(Bridge)
Woman 2 & Man 1 & Woman 3:  There's nothing like a house
 For peace of mind,
Woman 1 & Man 2 & Man 3:  There's nothing makes you feel
 So far behind!

(Coda)
Woman 1:  My friend and I, we live on diff'rent planets now.
Man 2:  He bought a house before I did! So anyhow...
Woman 3 and Man 3:  Our dreams just vanished right before our eyes!

Woman 2 & Woman 3:
Man 1:
